Vivacity Sydney, the city’s jam packed January and February events season has come to end for 2009. Sydney-siders and visitors experienced a range of vivacious events from the world famous New Year’s Eve Fireworks display on Sydney Harbour to the biggest celebration of Chinese New Year outside of Asia.

Our VivacityVision photography competition captured the unique energy and buzz generated by events during January, with over 1,000 photographs showcasing Sydney’s amazing diversity of event experiences. The winner of VivacityVision, Sean Diver, captured a fresh perspective of the harbour city in his colourful, personal shot showing his New Years Eve celebrations.
Vivacity may be over for this year, but listed on the NSW Master Events Calendar is a range of exciting events and festivals including the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival and Vivid Sydney.
At the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival (7 March-25 April), the best horses in Australia will be fighting it out for sporting glory at the world’s biggest race for two year olds, the STC’s AAMI Golden Slipper at Rosehill Gardens and the David Jones Australian Derby at Royal Randwick . The Carnival also features the world renowned Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sales.
Look out for Vivid Sydney (26 May-14 June), a unique new public festival that will transform the city into a spectacular living canvas of music and light in and around the Sydney Opera House, The Rocks, Circular Quay and the city centre. Vivid Sydney will be the biggest international music and light festival in the Southern Hemisphere.
